Appointments are conducted entirely online, allowing you to access individual psychological counselling from home, work, or another private location without travel or waiting room stress.

How do telehealth video appointments work?

Appointments are conducted using secure, Australian-standard video telehealth software. Prior to your scheduled consultation, you receive an email containing a direct video link. At your appointment time, simply click the link on your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Consultations open directly within your web browser without requiring complex software installation.

Can I claim Medicare rebates for telehealth psychology consultations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Under the Australian Government’s Better Access initiative, eligible clients with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral letter from a GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician can claim a Medicare rebate for up to 10 individual telehealth psychology consultations per calendar year. Consultations are charged at $230 per session, and the standard Medicare rebate is processed electronically to your registered bank account following payment.

How do I obtain a referral, or how does a GP refer to Well Rounded Psychology?

To claim Medicare rebates, make an appointment with your GP to prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral letter. GPs and medical practitioners can address referrals to Brenton Dick (Registered Psychologist, Ahpra registration PSY0001409701) or to Well Rounded Psychology generally, and email documentation securely to admin@wellroundedpsychology.com. Clients attending privately do not require a referral and may book online directly.

Question 5

Can DVA Gold Card or eligible White Card holders access telehealth psychology with Well Rounded Psychology?

Accepted Answer

DVA-funded telehealth psychology may be available for eligible DVA Gold Card holders and eligible White Card or Veteran Card – Specific Conditions holders where mental health treatment is covered.

Before booking, please contact the practice so we can arrange a brief initial conversation to understand what support is being sought, discuss whether telehealth may be suitable, confirm current appointment capacity, and check the relevant referral and funding requirements.

A valid GP referral is generally required before treatment begins with a psychologist. DVA referral cycles for psychology are generally up to 12 sessions or one year, whichever comes first; a new referral is needed if ongoing treatment is required.

Eligibility, card coverage, clinical suitability and appointment availability must be confirmed before an appointment is offered. Well Rounded Psychology may not be the right service for every enquiry, and alternative supports or referral options may be suggested where appropriate.

Can I access psychology through self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Well Rounded Psychology supports participants with self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding where individual telehealth psychological counselling aligns with their stated NDIS capacity-building goals. Itemised invoices are provided for self-reimbursement or submitted to your plan manager under an agreed service schedule. Please note that Well Rounded Psychology is not an NDIA-registered provider and cannot accept agency-managed NDIS participants. The $230 standard fee does not apply to NDIS services, which are agreed separately.

Yes. Men’s mental health is a dedicated focus area at Well Rounded Psychology. Brenton Dick offers a practical, collaborative, and non-judgmental space for men across Australia to discuss workplace stress, burnout, low mood, relationship dynamics, communication boundaries, and major life transitions. Consultations are delivered online via secure video, offering confidential support without needing to take extensive time away from work or visit a physical clinic.

Question 8

Can I use private health insurance instead of Medicare?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If your private health insurance policy includes psychological counselling under extras cover, you can submit your paid session invoice directly to your insurer for reimbursement. In accordance with Australian private health and Medicare regulations, you cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and private health insurance benefit for the same consultation.

What is the consultation fee and how long is each session?

Individual telehealth consultations run for approximately 50 minutes. The consultation fee is $230 per session for both privately paying and Medicare-referred clients. Fees for NDIS participants are determined separately under agreed service arrangements. Payment is processed securely at the conclusion of each consultation.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

Because session times are reserved exclusively for you, we request advance notice if you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. For more than 2 business days’ notice, no cancellation fee applies. Notice of 1 to 2 business days may incur a 50% fee, and less than 1 business day’s notice or non-attendance may incur the full consultation fee. How are privacy, records, and confidentiality protected in telehealth?

All consultations and clinical records are handled in strict compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles, and statutory health records obligations. Video transmissions use encrypted connections and are never recorded without explicit prior written consent. Confidentiality is maintained except in limited circumstances authorised or required by law, such as serious immediate safety concerns.

Is telehealth psychology suitable for acute crises or emergencies?

Accepted Answer

No. Well Rounded Psychology is an outpatient telehealth counselling service and is not an acute crisis, emergency, forensic, or inpatient medical service.
