Suitability for telehealth psychological counselling
Telehealth counselling is well-suited for individuals seeking structured, collaborative psychological support for mild to moderate mental health concerns, including:
Please note: Well Rounded Psychology is not an acute crisis, emergency, or specialist forensic service. Clients requiring crisis intervention, urgent psychiatric risk management, or active inpatient care are advised to access specialized local emergency services.
Funding and referral guidance
Well Rounded Psychology welcomes enquiries regarding private, Medicare, DVA, and some NDIS-supported psychology services. Referral requirements vary depending on the funding pathway.
Medicare
Eligible clients may be referred under Better Access. Referrals are generally made by a GP or prescribed medical practitioner through the relevant treatment-plan pathway, or directly by a psychiatrist or paediatrician where applicable.
DVA
DVA-related enquiries are welcome. GPs and other appropriate medical referrers may refer where suitable referral pathways are in place. Veterans and referrers are encouraged to email before booking so suitability, referral requirements, eligibility, and service arrangements can be confirmed.
NDIS
Self-managed and plan-managed enquiries may be considered where appropriate. Support coordinators, plan managers, and other services are welcome to email for information about service fit, fees, and next steps before referral.
For referral enquiries, reports, or pathway questions, please email admin@wellroundedpsychology.com. GPs and other legitimate medical referrers can send referrals directly where appropriate. Other organisations are welcome to email for guidance, but referral requirements and funding pathways should be confirmed before services are arranged.
Better Access (GP Mental Health Treatment Plans)
Eligible clients referred under a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) may claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year.
- Referring practitioner’s name, provider number, and practice address.
- Client’s full legal name, date of birth, contact details, and Medicare details.
- Diagnosis or primary presenting concerns and symptoms.
- Confirmation of a current Mental Health Treatment Plan and number of initial sessions allocated (typically 6).
- Referrals can be addressed to Brenton Dick or generally to Well Rounded Psychology / The Psychologist in accordance with Medicare guidelines.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) referrals & enquiries
Well Rounded Psychology welcomes enquiries and referrals for veterans and eligible DVA cardholders seeking individual psychological counselling via telehealth across Australia.
- Medical referrers: GPs and eligible medical practitioners may refer veterans where suitable referral pathways are in place (such as an allied health referral form or GP medical letter specifying DVA file details).
- Video telehealth preferred: Telehealth counselling is delivered via secure video consultations to ensure clinical efficacy and engagement. Phone consultations may be considered where clinically and administratively appropriate, but video is the primary format and phone should not be relied upon as the default mode where DVA requirements mandate video telehealth.
- Pre-booking consultation: Veterans and referrers are encouraged to email before booking so that clinical suitability, referral requirements, eligibility, and service arrangements can be confirmed in advance.
- Billing & arrangements: DVA acceptance and arrangements depend on specific card entitlements (Gold or White card clinical eligibility). We do not guarantee automated acceptance or instant claims processing; arrangements are confirmed upon review of referral paperwork.
Self-managed & plan-managed NDIS psychological support
Well Rounded Psychology considers enquiries for individuals with self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding where telehealth psychological counselling is appropriate to their capacity-building goals.
- Distinct fee structure: The $230 fee for standard private and Medicare consultations does not apply to NDIS services. NDIS pricing, administrative requirements, and service agreements are agreed separately.
- Registration scope: Well Rounded Psychology is not a registered NDIA provider and therefore cannot accept agency-managed (NDIA-managed) participants.
- Pre-referral contact: Support coordinators, plan managers, and participants are welcome to email for information about service fit, fees, and next steps before referral.
Guidance for support coordinators & community services
Outside services and community agencies play an important role in connecting clients with healthcare. When exploring psychological counselling with Well Rounded Psychology, please note:
- Medical referral pathway: Direct referrals under Medicare (Better Access) or DVA can only be made by an eligible medical practitioner (GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician). Outside agencies do not have direct-referral authority and should direct clients back to their treating GP if medical rebates or statutory pathways are required.
- Confirming pathways first: Support agencies and coordinators are welcome to email for guidance, but referral requirements, service fit, and funding pathways must be confirmed before services are arranged.
- Care coordination: Where clients have complex psychosocial or multi-agency needs, agencies may need to direct clients back to their primary medical provider or relevant plan organiser to establish appropriate clinical oversight.
Written reporting to referrers
Collaborative communication with referring practitioners is central to effective client care. In accordance with Medicare requirements, written progress reports are provided to referring doctors:
- Following the completion of the initial course of sessions (typically session 6).
- At the conclusion of treatment or when reviewing treatment goals.
- Promptly if any significant clinical updates or coordination matters arise.
Sending a referral
To protect client confidentiality and ensure the secure handling of sensitive health information (including Mental Health Treatment Plans and diagnostic records), we do not use an unencrypted web submission form. Referrals and clinical documentation are accepted directly via email.
Patients may also arrange an appointment directly via our online booking system once their referral is prepared, or contact the practice if they have questions before getting started.
